ST IVES IS A SMALL PICTURESQUE FISHING TOWN OF GREAT CHARACTER AND CHARM, SITUATED ON THE CORNISH RIVIERA WITH THE SEA ON THREE SIDES. IT IS FAMOUS FOR ITS CLEAR BLUE WATERS, WHITE SANDS AND SUB TROPICAL TEMPERATURES ALL YEAR ROUND. NARROW COBBLED STREETS WIND THEIR WAY THROUGH THE OLD QUARTER KNOWN LOCALLY AS 'DOWNALONG', AND GALLERIES, RESTAURANTS AND SMALL SHOPS ARE IN ABUNDANCE.

PORTHMEOR


PORTHMEOR IS ONE OF THE LARGEST BEACHES IN ST IVES AND THE CLOSEST TO BY THE BEACH, BEING JUST SECONDS AWAY. FOR THOSE WHO LIKE SPORTS THE ST IVES SURF SCHOOL IS LOCATED ON THIS BEACH. THERE IS ALSO A SMALL RESTAURANT ON PORTHMEOR OVER LOOKING THE SEA WITH HEATED OUTDOOR EATING NOOKS. IN THE SUMMER THIS BEACH IS ALSO PUPULAR WITH FAMILIES WITH LIFEGUARDS BEING PRESENT ON THE BEACH.

PORTHGWIDDEN


PORTHGWIDDEN IS ONE OF THE SMALLER BEACHES IN ST IVES AND IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM BY THE BEACH. PORTHGWIDDEN IS A GOOD BEACH FOR FAMILIES AS THE SMALL SIZE MEANS IT IS EASIER TO KEEP AN EYE ON LITTLE ONES! THERE IS A LOVELY SMALL RESTAURANT OVER LOOKING THE BEACH, WITH ITS WARM ATMOSPHERE AND DELICOUS FOOD IT IS ONE OF ST IVES GEMS!

BAMALUZ


BAMALUZ IS THE SMALLEST BEACH IN ST IVES AND IS A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM BY THE BEACH. THIS BEACH IS A DESIGNATED DOG BEACH WHERE YOU CAN TAKE YOUR FURRY FRIEND TO ENJOY THE SEA ALL YEAR ROUND.

THE HARBOUR


THE HARBOUR IS THE ICONIC VIEW OF ST IVES WHICH IS RECOGNISED ALL AROUND THE WORLD AND IS ONLY A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM BY THE BEACH. THIS BEACH CAN BE SHELTERED FROM THE WIND AND HAS ALL THE CHARM OF A FISHING PORT. NOT TO MENTION THE FAMOUS 17TH CENTURY SLOOP INN AND OTHER ATTRACTIONS ON THE HARBOUR FRONT.

PORTHMINSTER


PORTHMINSTER BEACH IS ANOTHER WONDERFUL BEACH ACROSS FROM THE HARBOUR, GIVING YOU A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE OF ST IVES. PORTHMINSTER IS A 20 MINUTE WALK FROM BY THE BEACH AND IS PERFECT FOR FAMILIES. IT HAS ALL THE NECESSARY FACILITIES SUCH AS A BEACH SHOP, RENTABLE BEACH HUTS, TOILETS AND THE FAMOUS PORTHMINSTER CAFE RESTAURANT WHICH ALSO HAS A TAKEAWAY HUTCH TO GET YOUR MUCH NEEDED CHIP FIX! 

CARBIS BAY


CARBIS BAY IS THE FURTHEST AWAY FROM BY THE BEACH TAKING APPROXIMATLY AN HOUR TO GET TO ON FOOT FROM BY THE BEACH. ALTERNATIVELY YOU CAN CATCH A TRAIN AT PORTHMINSTER FOR A SMALL FEE TO CARBIS BAY WHICH TAKES 5 MINUTES. CARBIS BAY IS A BEAUTIFUL BEACH WITH A DELICIOUS RESTAURANT AND A GOOD CHANGE OF SCENERY.

THE ISLAND


THE ISLAND ORIGINALLY CALLED 'PENDINAS', WHICH MEANS FORTIFIED HEADLAND, IS NOT REALLY AN ISLAND AT ALL BUT A SMALL GRASSY PENINSULA CONNECTED TO THE MAINLAND. WALKING AROUND THE ISLAND GIVES YOU NICE VIEWS OF PORTMEOR AND PORTHGWIDDEN BEACH. IT IS ALSO A GOOD PLACE TO VIEW WAVES BREAKING ON THE ROCKS AND TAKE PHOTOS.

PORTHMEOR TO ZENNOR


THE BREATH-TAKING SCENARY AS YOU WALK THE COASTAL FOOTPATH TOWARDS THE TINY HAMLET OF ZENNOR IS SECOND TO NONE. WHEN YOU GET TO ZENNOR THE TINNERS ARMS WITH ITS PLEASANT GARDEN OVERLOOKING THE HEADLAND IS A WELCOME BREAK AT THE END OF YOUR WALK. FOR THOSE LESS ENERGENIC THERE IS AN OCCASIONAL BUS SERVICE THAT RUNS AT CERTAIN TIMES ( TRAVELINE ON 0870 608 2608 ) APPROXAMITLY 6 MILES FROM ST IVES.

CARBIS BAY


AS MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY, THERE IS A WOODED COASTAL WALK FROM PORTHMINSTER BEACH TO CARBIS BAY WHICH TAKES YOU UP OUT OF ST IVES WITH MAGNIFICENT VIEWS ALONG WITH THE CHANCE TO SEE THE TRAIN PASS BY!
